First let me begin this blog by stating that I am not a smoker. However, during my late teenage years, during and after college I would “partake” quite frequently. Nonetheless, there has been an ongoing discussion about the legalization of marijuana.
With a struggling economy and health care troubling most U.S. citizens the argument has become more of a meaningful topic. One reason is for medicinal purposes. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled against medical use of marijuana, but emphasized the decision was not over whether marijuana is effective for pain relief, in June 2005.
13 states that have legalized marijuana for medical purposes are; Alaska, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maine, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington. The question came up against those who use it for recreational purposes, why should they want it to be legal. Well I question why not, if they are using this for medicinal purposes. They are not using alcohol for medicinal purposes. If I needed aspirin for pain and take an ounce of pills, they would have to pump my stomach, but if I smoke an ounce of weed the side effects would not be as harmful.
Another point that people bring up is the harmful effects of drugs that doctors prescribe are not only legal but lethal. Which opens up the debate, should marijuana be legalized?

Yesterday I’m headed to a meeting at Starbucks and I’m trying to tweet about my thoughts on the latest Black Eyed Peas album The E.N.D. I felt the “need” to tweet to my 2000 plus followers that this has to be one of the best albums of 2009. For some odd reason, uber twitter on my blackberry was not connecting. So now I’m thinking it’s my phone, which is the brand new curve so I’m light weight trippin. I cut my phone off then cut it back on and uber twitter is still not working. I was still getting my emails and text messages so I was not too alarmed.
After my meeting, I head downtown to drop off some paperwork for my company and still no uber twitter. At this point I have an “oh well” attitude. Next, I grab lunch with my Community Relations Director, then run some more errands and proceed on to work.
When I get to the radio station, I mentioned to my co-host that my uber twitter had been acting up, he said his was too and that it was on the news that someone hacked into FaceBook and Twitter. That’s when I had my ‘ahh haa’ moment. As I logged back on from my laptop, I noticed a few tweets mentioning how relieved they were now that twitter is back up.
I became intrigued with the notion that so many people are over-consumed with the world wide web and it’s web of distractions that lure you in. Before you know it, you’ve been on the net for 3 – 4 hours wasting precious productive time that could have been spent on personal development. Believe me, I have got caught up in it too. It must me very difficult for those that work in a cubicle office space for 8 plus hours a day. Can you break the ‘web’ of distraction? How much does the Internet consume your life? Can you control it? Will there soon be Internet intervention one day?
In Florida, rapper Brisco gets robbed at gun point of his money and jewelry after a photo shoot.
Which brings me to the question, what will be Brisco’s reaction to this incident? Will he be riled up beating his chest, talking big or will he be humbled by this.
Do black men get depressed? Of course! Why is it masked? Is it because of the male ego or just lack of knowledge? On the Power of One Voice we will be discussing this very topic.
Here are some signs of depression to look for:
Significant weight loss when not dieting or weight gain (i.e., a change of more than 5% of body weight in a month), or decrease or increase in appetite
Insomnia or hypersomnia (excessive sleeping) nearly every day
Feeling restless or sluggish to the point that others notice
Fatigue or loss of energy
Feelings of worthlessness or excessive or inappropriate guilt
Diminished ability to think or concentrate, or indecisiveness
Recurrent thoughts of death (not just fear of dying), recurrent suicidal thoughts without a specific plan, or a suicide attempt or a specific plan for committing suicide
Depression may be brought on by:
Alcohol or drug abuse
Childhood events like abuse or neglect
Chronic stress
Death of a friend or relative
Disappointment at home, work, or school (in teens, this may be breaking up with a boyfriend or girlfriend, failing a class, or parents divorcing)
Drugs such as sedatives and high blood pressure medications
Medical conditions such as hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid), cancer, or hepatitis
Nutritional deficiencies (such as a lack of folate and omega-3 fatty acids)
Overly negative thoughts about one’s self and life, self blame, and ineffective social problem solving skills
Prolonged pain or having a major illness

In light of top story in Cambridge, Massachusetts where the Harvard Professor Gates was arrested by Sgt. [James] Crowley for “loud and tumultuous behavior in a public space”. This story has gained national attention, which brings racism as the topic of discussion.
